Success Story #39: Maryland 2-Vet Waterfowl 2013 (Round 2)

***NARRATIVE for January 2-4, 2014 Maryland hunt by John Littleton***

It was my honor to be able to take Brian Billingsley and Jake Whiteside out for three days of Maryland waterfowl hunting. Both are currently serving in the Army as helicopter pilots and are planning to put in their 20 years. They both have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

On our first day we were hosted by Capt. Jimmy Price in Rockhall, MD with three generation of Price’s on hand. At the first blind we only managed to bag three geese and it was very slow going and were quickly moved to another blind in Chestertown where our limits were met in no time. Thank you Jimmy Price for the donated hunt Brian and Jake had a great time.

Our second day we were greeted with 45 mph gusts of wind and snow so we headed to the Pocomoke River to look for mallards and woodies hiding from the wind. They must have left town not a one to be found. We returned to Crisfield and went to the Little Annemessex River and set up. Both Jake & Brian got their limits of Buffies and Mergies and were tickled to death as they had never shot ducks before. I think they’re hooked!

The third day was the best, my friend, Bill Sanders invited us to do layout boats. Brian and Jake were put in a 2-man layout boat where they shot the grand slam trifecta of scoters (one of each) and some old squaw. Thanks to Bill, Brent Smith & TJ for a great hunt.

I would like to thank all those who donated to the hunts, gift bags items that were given to the veterans and for their involvement in helping our Nation’s finest:
Capt. Jimmy Price Rock Bottom Charters for the Goose hunt
Bill Sanders for the layout boat hunt
Ed Henry of Sean Mann Outfitters for the signed Goose Flutes
Mike Stelzner for his custom made limited edition Hunters Helping Heroes “HERO” Duck Calls
Chris Fazio of Webbed DEzigns Lanyards
Mark Bartolowits of Outdoor Memories Taxidermy
Mike Travis of Upper Bay Taxidermy
John Littleton for hosting the hunts and presenting “Thank You” challenge coins

I just want to give a huge thanks from myself as well to all those involved in putting another great event together for our Nation’s heroes and to John for putting this together again with his third for the season coming up shortly…we couldn’t do so much for these men without the help and support of folks like you all!!!
